New puppy having trouble going #2

Question
We just got a new puppy yesterday.  He's 9 weeks old.  He hasn't gone #2 yet though.  I've seen him sniff around on the carpet & then it appears that he's trying to go but can't.  I then take him outside & he just lays at my feet.  He's got poo on his bottom but I don't think any actually came out.  Does that make any sense?  Should I be worried?

Congratulations on getting a new puppy!

Many times, the stress of arriving in it's new home, and the possible change in diet, and even a change of water is enough to make a puppy a little constipated.

Don't worry if your puppy doesn't "go" for a couple of days. As long as he's eating well and acting normally, you have nothing to worry about.

If your puppy still hasn't had a bowel movement by the day after tomorrow,  add a tiny bit of vegetable oil to his regular food (such as canola or olive oil). About half a teaspoon (once a day) should get things moving. Too much can cause a laxative effect, so go easy, and be patient!
