Question
i have a 10 month old pug, it seems that she has gone into heat twice in the last
few months. she appears to be fatigued and very hungry all the time.
should we be concern about the frequency of her heats, and secondly how long
are these heats to last

Answer
You didn't say when she first came into heat, but her cycles do seem to be a bit too often. She could be one of those with hormonal issues, or even thyroid problems. I would be tempted to have her thyroid tested to make sure that there is no problem with that as it can cause other long-term issues down the line.

The heats last for three full weeks, and the bitch should be confined for at least four weeks to make certain that she is done as some will ovulate very late. Personally, I would just spay her and that would solve the problem of the frequency of the seasons. It would not, however, do anything to alleviate hypothyroidism if she should have that, as that would require life-long medication; hypothyroidism is also a hereditary problem.

Time for a quick trip to the vet, I think.
