Question
I have a litter of 4 week old puppies.  This is our 3rd litter and I know these kinds of puppies sometime have difficulty breathing through their noses but I have 5 puppies and 2 of them sound terrible as if they cannot breathe through their noses/like a cold?  One of them is not eating at all he was but is no longer so I am bottle feeding him with goat milk and I am also giving some of mom's milk/little.  But what do I do about this breathing problem  I make a little hill out of a blanket because it seems to like to put his head up high but when I pick them up they seem fine but when they lay down they sound congested  I am really scared for them

Answer
Hello Carleen, I am very sorry to hear two puppies have breathing problems, The only thing that can be done to correct it so they can live a happy and full life is surgery. here are some info links: http://www.veterinaryspecialties.com/brachnews2.pdf

I would get the two puppies with problems into the vet pretty soon.....they are due for there first vaccines in two weeks so if you think they can wait until then that would be better. Your vet will explain the problem to you and will correct it when the puppies are 8/10 weeks old. I had the Stenic nare correctment surgery done on my boston terrier when she was 10 weeks old I wasnt aware she had the problem when I bought her at 8 weeks of age. My ve said she'd done  puppies who were eight weeks old without problems. Signs of these problems... both stenic nares and enlongated soft palate are: vomiting after eatting/ vomting froth/flem foam often, vomiting after drinking, Extensive snorting/snoring, snot bubbles forming around nose...decresesed appitiate and visable Tight nares(nostrils). The surgery ran me $350 Candian funds but she gave me a deal because my boston terrier also has a slightly enlongateed sfot palte that might have needed correctment but never did, the orginal price was $425 so if you can type the price into a currency converter you might be able to guess how much it will cost. If you are in doubt that it is the problems mentioend and think they are just sick then take them to the vets right away.
