Question
Hi, my dog was just diagnosed with cancer of liver and spleen. She (cocker spaniel) is 10 years old and still seems to feel good but has lost a bit of weight. I just want her to be comfortable since the vet's do not feel surgery will cure. I am open for any other suggestions. Anything to keep her around a bit longer......

Answer
Hi Lisa,

Thank you for writing to me about your sweet dog diagnosed with cancer.  The first thing I would like to recommend is putting her on Low Dose Naltrexone. You can get this by working with Dr. Newkirk from Margate Animal Hospital.  http://www.alternativevet.com/VET/margate/index.html

Dr. Newkirk will work long distance with you and is very skilled in alternative approaches to cancer.  Low Dose Naltrexone, or LDN (www.lowdosenaltrexone.org) works with the immune system to slow down the progression of certain cancers.

I don't know what you are feeding her but she should be eating organic food, preferably grass fed beef, organic chicken and a frozen organic food like Primal venison, buffalo, pheasant, chicken, rabbit and fish.  Keep your dog away from all sugars, as cancer feeds on sugar.

Sick dogs should not be exposed to vaccinations, including rabies, or any kind of poisons such as frontline and flea collars.

Cancer of the spleen is about as serious as it gets but if you follow Dr. Newkirk's protocol, you may be able to slow the cancer down.

Keep researching, join internet groups for canine cancer and even human cancer like cancercured@yahoogroups.com, etc.

Enjoy the time that you have left with your dog and when the time comes, help her move over to the other side.

There is never an easy way to say good bye but know that when your dog leaves this plane, her energy will always surround you until the time that you are both reunited.

Please tell Dr. Newkirk that I recommended you to his office.
