NEW DOG ALWAYS HAS PENIS OUT

Question
WE GOT A RESCUED DOG TWO DAYS AGO.  HE IS ABOUT TWO YEARS OLD.  HE ALSWAYS 90% OF THE TIME HAS HIS PENIS EXPOSED.  WHAT CAN I DO?  HE HAS NOT BEEN NEUTERED YET.

Neutering will help, but isn't a cure all.  At 4-H the other night, I was noticing the one male erect much of the time.  He is a neutered, well bred, well trained 2-3 year old and was still doing it.  Some males are just that way.  Just ignore it.

Better leadership may help too.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
