Cocker Spaniel That Wont Stop Itching

Question
Hello there Dlee. I have a question about my year old male cocker spaniel. I'd say it's been about two months now, and he won't stop scratching himself. It's toward his backside, near his legs. My mother thinks he has/had fleas as she thinks she saw one one day while giving him a bath. But my mother's sight is bad so I don't know if she did or not. The dog has been getting several flea baths, he has been sprayed with some sort of spray my mother picked up, we have tried a lot of things but he is still scratching. I am starting to think that he may not have fleas, but rather some sort of skin condition. I do hope you are able to give me some sort of answer, as I wasn't sure which expert to ask. If you can't, that's fine but if you could please direct me to someone who could (we'd rather not go to the vet just yet as we're on a fixed income), it would be much appreciated. Thank you very much and hope you enjoy your day.

Sincerly,
Matthew M.

Answer
Hello,

This isnt fleas, sounds like allergies, for now(until you can get him into the vets office) Try Benadryl Allergy pills for people via the drug store they are  11/13(depends where you are living) bucks a box for 50. Get the TWENTY FIVE ML thats 25 ML ones the adult ones Not the childrens ones. Give one every 12 (twelve)hours to start for a few days then slow to one every 24 (twenty four)hours. These I give to my two terreirs almost everyday(6 out of 7 days a week for the one dog about 4 days a week for the other). My vet reccomended these to me several times when I went in with my dogs that were itching themselfs practicly bald. You can also give cool water bathes...not warm not cold but Cool like what temprture a bath is after it starts to cool if you catch my drift with Oatmeal/aloe Dog shampoo or itch relife shampoos for Dogs via petstores or walmart once or twice a week...wet the dog well and lather him up well let the shampoo sit for about 2 or 3 minutes before rinsing so it can take better effect. Also Change him to a fish and potato dog food there hpo allergtic Pro plan makes one as does Purina One the best however is Blue Buffalo which I give to my two small dogs(the fish and potato type). This is about all you can do for now the vet needs to see the dog to be sure its allergies and not inscet bites or a rash ect ect.

Please note I added the writing to the numbers above as typos are a bit common on this website and would hate to have someone get the wrong doseage infomartion.
