puppy bitting

We have a new yellow lab puppy born august 26th 2008.  He still bites and nips.  We have tried "No biting" and it does not seem to stop him.  He also bites at his leash when it is on.  Please help me with recommendations to stop the bitting.  Also interested in training him for elder companion. Thank you,

What would probably be best for this puppy because you want him as a special companion would be to take him to obedience classes-call around and pick a trainer that knows how to train dogs like this,and he/she will also be able to show you how to stop chewing and biting
