golden blockhead lab 15 months

Our lab is a male and he is shedding his hair a lot.I am picking up his hair every day. Is this normal.

See http://www.photolocker.net/images/Labman/knitanewaster.jpg  The brush in the picture is a wire slicker brush.  I have found nothing better, not even the highly advertised Furminator.  Feed a commercial dry chow, brush regularly with a soft bristle brush switching to the slicker brush when needed, and bathe seldom if ever.
