Question
We have a 4-year old Jack Russell named Lexie. I've had Lexie since she was 8 weeks old. Recently, Lexie's behavior has become uncontrollable during thunerstorms; we've had many sleepless nights. She barks, whines, pants, runs and jumps throughout the entire storm. Because she gets so hyped up, she has accidents inside. Because she does not settle down, she will jump and spread the "accident" all over the carpet. She makes horrific messes and is ruining our carpeting. I waited out the last storm with Lexie in our bathroom, figuring that being in a small room might calm her down PLUS if she has an accident, tiling is easier to clean than carpeting. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Angie;
My English Setter and my son's Lab/Choiw was going into shock on us during a sky ripping thunderstorm.
Silky was barely a year old, and I gave her a 5 minute massage for calming, and she lay down at my feet and slept through the rest of the storm. She lived 12 years more, and was never bothered by thundertorms again.
I have usd this massage technique on other dogs for other things.
It is the best training tool I have ever used, and any nervous behavior such as aggression, excessive barking, some compulsive behaviors, and pain relief, that I have ever found.
Go to this site and read what can be done with this method of animal massage. You can order a video to learn hopw to do the diferent massages correctly.
Because of the differences in muscle structure and location of nerves, the massages are different for different animals.
