JRT Barking

Hello Elaine,
I have 2 JRT's, they barl like crazy when I leave the house to goto work ( my landlord has informed me) and they bark like crazy even when I just go downstairs to get my mail.
I do not want to put them on med's, and I do not want to place a bark control collar on them.
Can you reccommend / suggest, a Barking Device that I can hang up on the wall. I see so many of them online, and can't seem to find one with positive reviews.
Please advise and thank you.

Hi Frankie,

There is a reason why you can't find any positive comments on bark collars.....Putting them on meds is a long way away IMO. There are many things that you can do to help them calm down.

1. Give them something to do that is so high value that they will choose that instead of barking. Like a big frozen raw marrow bone.
2. Desensitize them to the cues that mean you are leaving by doing them and not leaving (picking up your keys, grabbing your coat etc)
3. Increase their exercise, particularly before you leave
4. Make sure their diet isn't laden with food that turn into sugar in their bodies, it will amp them up!
5. Plug on a Comfort Zone right by the door and or give them less space away from the door. Apart from each other if they are feeding off one another.
