Answer
Hi Lainey;
This is what I have always to help a mother dog or cat produce more milk.
Mix 1 part Pet or other brand condensed milk ( not Eagle brand, and not low fat)
2 parts water
A tad of light corn syrup.
To one cup condensed milk and 2 cups water, I would use about 1 tsp. Karo syrup.
If you use Eagle Brand canned milk, leave out the Karo syrup, and you might need to mix 1 part eagle Brand, to 3 cups water. I am not very familiar with Eagle Brand milk. I know it is sweetened and thicker than other condensed milk, but I am not sure how much, so I would stick with the regular condensed milk and karo syrup.
Let the mother drink that, and from one feeding, to the time they nurse again ( a matter of a coupls of hours, usually ), she will have more milk.
Meantime, you can get a puppy nursing kit that contains a little bottle, to feed the puppies some of it.
You can also get puppy formula at pet stores or a Veterinarians clinic.
Before the puppy formulas came out, the formula I gave you is what we suppliminated the mother's milk with.
It is the same formula we made for human infants before this STUPID ready mixed formulas came out.
Those formulas are artificial foods, and I think before too much longer, people will wake up and realize these pre-made formulas are the reason so many children are lactose intollerant and more children have Asthma and other problems, that when my children were babies, very few children had a problem with.
The Karo syrup in the formula stimulates milk production, and keeps the mother and the babies from getting constipated. So don't use too much of it. A tad too much will give her the runs.
You could feed the puppies once, and then let them nurse the mother after she has had a couple hours for new, and richer milk to form.
Then she should be able to nurse them.
Givbe her the formula once, then notice if she is able to feed and satisfy them with subsequent feedings. Sometimes just once giving the fornula will be enough. Sometimes you may have to givbe her the formula several times.
When the puppies nurse and still cry, it is because the milk is not satisfying them, so any time that happens, give them a little of the formula.
If I can help further, just write me.
