Lhasa Apso Issue

Question
Hello,

I have a Lhasa Apso that we got when she was 3 and she now just turned 7; healthy as can be.  My question is, Bonnie likes to not tear, not rip, not pull, but simply open/close her mouth on cloths (blankets, clothes, etc).  In no way is she ripping or pulling them, just likes to nibble.  I was wondering why she does this?  She does have an underbite, as most Lhasa's do, and we do give her rawhides.

Thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Mike,

Thank you for witing to me about your Lhasa Apso.

From what you are describing it sounds like your dog is in a pacification mode stemming from when she was suckling on her mother.  This is a way for her to calm herself and relax.

There are cloth dog toys that you can give her that she can suckle on as well.  Many dogs exhibit this behavior.  I personally find it very endearing.

Best Regards,

Shelley Davis
