Question
I WANT TO BUY A MALE BULLMASTIFF PUPPY. WE CURRENTLY OWN AN ADULT MALE TERRIER. DO YOU THINK THERE WILL BE PROBLEMS WITH THESE TWO DOGS LIVING TOGETHER?

Answer
Hi Marty,

The answer to your question would be very difficult to determine without lots more information.  Is your adult male terrier good with other dogs, and specifically will he tolerate the antics of a puppy that will most likely outsize him within a short amount of time?  Does your terrier tend to be prey driven, and is there a chance that he will view your puppy as prey until the puppy becomes older and bigger?  Is your terrier neutered, and do you intend to neuter the Bullmastiff puppy at some point?  In general, two males tend to have more issues and live less harmoniously than a male and female living together, and even neutered males can and will mark their territory (meaning items in your home, including your sofa, your lamps, etc.).  Is there a specific reason you want a male Bullmastiff as opposed to a female, and what are your reasons for wanting to get a second dog that (may be) so much bigger than your current terrier?  What type of space do you live in?  Is it a space where you will be able to manage and supervise the dogs at all stages of maturity and growth?  Are you an experienced dog owner that can manage not only a Bullmastiff breed, but also manage two mature males at any point, one much larger than the other?  Do you intend to train the puppy starting at a young age, as this will be a very big breed?

If you're not sure of the answers to these questions, it may be a good idea to consult with a dog professional in order to assess your home environment and counsel you regarding getting another puppy before you leap.
