Weird Eating Habits

Question
My moms little dog, when eating will take a bite and walk off, then chew it up,,over there.  He was raised around a bigger dog, and we think it has something to do with that. We have tried taking the bowl to another room, hand feeding, and completely separating the dogs, but when we do these things he wont eat at all. I am tired of having dog food all over my floor, I want him to eat like a normal dog. When eating table scraps he eats normal he doesnt take that to another place. I think if he can eat table scraps normally he can do the same thing with the dog food. Any ideas how i can break this habit with out him starving?

Answer
Hello Susan;
I am sure this seems weird to you,
but, when a dog has the "competition" think going he has to sneak his food away.
This is what you will have to get used to for awhile until you can change him over.
I suggest that you feed him in a crate until he is calmer about his territory!
This way, he can get used to the idea he is "okay"!
Then, you won't have to clean up the food off the floor!
I would limit table scraps for now,
As they teach him to eat them first, and not eat the dry regular diet...another way to keep him on a normal eating schedule.
Enjoy,
Melissa
