Question
i have a 1 an ahalf year old beagle that we thought for sure was pregnant. she is so hungry all the time. more than the other dogs and her boobies got pretty good size sacks and her nipples enlarged. and she was hiding in small dark places, sometimes crying. she is also overweight though. we took her to the vet for her yearly shots an they ultersounded her to see if pregnant an they said no. but now im wondering could she of miscarried. i didnt think to ask the vet. is there any ways of me to no if she misscarried an if there is a chance that she did is there any thing further that needs to be done with her by the vet if she did misscarry or is it something i really dont need to worry bout even if she did misscarry. and one more question i need help putting her on a diet. is there a pill that can help me with her cause we are having lots of trouble doing it on are own. thank you so much for your help. natalie

Answer
If she miscarried, and she has no discharge and no fever, she's going to be fine. She could also have absorbed the litter, or there is a possiblity that she was never pregnant at all but had a false pregnancy. There is no pill that you can give your dog to help her lose weight. You can get a good premium reduced calorie food from Wellness, Natural Balance or Eagle Pack. Go slowly in reducing her calories as a dog losing weight is not like a person and it can really throw their bodies into a tail spin. More importantly, leave out the treats and start an exercise program for her. Walk her every day, gradually increasing the distance and time as she builds stamina.
See your vet for a COMPLETE checkup prior to putting her on a diet and exercise program
Good luck Natalie,:)
