2 year old Male poops and pees to greet us!!

Question
My dog was trained at PetsMart. We were very consistent. We have the
vibrating collar to remind him to not do something. My husband takes the
dog out to poop and pee before work. We don't feed the dog in the morning
either. I have watched my husband leave for work and my dog immediately
goes to the front patio and poops right in the entrance. I stopped my dog
when I saw him do it. His tail went between his legs. Whenever my husband
and or I come home from work, my dog has peed, pooped or left a
combination of the two right where we need to enter. We tried various ways
to punish him. I've even sprayed a pet repellent spray as you would to
housebreak a puppy. He is a 2 year old St. Bernard and Mastiff mix. He is a
precious dog, but is he entering adolescenthood? or is he "mad" at us for
leaving? How do I train him to stop?!?

Answer
He may be maturing and feel it is time to challenge you for leadership, or at least be allowed with the pack.  he key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. My guess is that it may have to do with stress rather than spite.  If improving your relationship with him doesn't help, there is always doggy daycare.
