Hello

My dog was neutered 2 weeks ago and i have a bitch in season, last night the dog mounted the bitch.  Whats the chances of her been pregnant?

Hi Rebecca,

Thank you for writing to me about your recently neutered dog.  After neutering, active sperm can remain in the male tract for as long as a month.  This fluctuates with individual dogs.  It is quite possible that your female has been impregnated.  I would suggest that you discuss this with your vet to see if he might be able to spay your female or if there is an injection that might stop an unwanted pregnancy.

When considering spaying, please note that for every heat a female goes through, the chances of cancer rise dramatically, so you might want to seriously consider spaying her. Also, for every puppy born, there is one less available home for a dog on death row.
