heat tolerance

I have a havanese and was wondering if keeping a long coat helps them adjust to heat or would it be better to keep clipped short...not sure of use of undercoat on this breed..she is a black female 3 years old

I don't know that there is any solid answer to that question.  Many people have opinions, but no real proof to base them on.  My dogs spend most of the summer in the air conditioned house, crated if needed when left alone.  I make liberal use of wetting them down outside, giving them a chance to swim when I can.  I think it would be better not to clip her.
