Question
Hi.....

Please help me....what can I do????? I have a 9 week old maltese/yorkie who is a very good puppy except she keeps going after my daughters (9 & 10) ankles and shoe laces. If they take the sneakers off she goes after their ankles. What do you reccomend???
Also she is always at our feet, expecially theirs and you cannot walk. It is getting frustrating w/ the biting of my girls ankles.
I appreciate your help....

Thanks Gail

Answer
Thanks for your question.
I would reccomend you teach your daughters how to disapline the dog. I assume from how old they are they can do this themselves. So everytime your pup goes after shoelaces try substituting a toy. A mini rope toy could suit her very well. If she goes after the shoes again growl "NAW!" at her. If this doesn't work put her into her kennel(or crate-I assume you have one), for a few minutes. Then take her back out. Play with her with her toys more often, but stay away from tug-o-war games.
If she goes after ankles, growl at her. If she doesn't stop put her directly into her crate for a few minutes. Ignore her while she is in her crate. Don't leave her in too long. And when she is not being punished, leave the door open.
Also, try out a training class. This is just so your dog will know to obey you. When you say "No", or growl, she will know what this means. Also it is quite nice to have a behaved dog.
Excersize and playtime also helps greatly. A tired dog is a behaved dog.

I wish you good luck and I hope I've helped.
