Answer
Hi Joey,

Thank you for writing to me.  You ask about the chances of an unwanted pregnancy?  Great!

I would like to encourage you to have your dogs spay/neutered.  Firstly, it protects both dogs against certain cancers, encourages a calmer personality and is basically a healthier way of living in today's society.

It also prevents unwanted litters.  As a person who works in rescue, I can't tell you how many pitties are put down every single day due to the lack of enough homes for them.  It is one of the saddest things in rescue...all these precious dogs and not enough homes.  Every time a puppy is born, it deprives a dog on death row of a chance at life.

Finally, dogs in heat and unneutered males can create a highly dangerous situation for your children.  These are dogs that are driven by hormones and their behavior can be highly aggressive during the mating season.

I hope that you will take my advice seriously for the good of all.

Best Regards,
Shelley Davis
