Question
I recently (Oct 07) adopted a 1 1/2 yr old cocker, she has been a joy, full of energy, just a big goofball, however she seemed to be very sad when I had to leave her at home to go to work or run errands.  I thought it over and decided that a companion would be good for her.  I just got another cocker, she is layed back, and very sweet natured at 5 yrs.  My concern is that my first cocker seems to have lost her sprit.  It has only been a few days.  I have done and am doing all the suggestions about feeding, petting, playing with her first.  Do I need to be concerned at this point? or just give it more time.  I got the other dog thinking it would make her happy to not be alone when I have to be gone?  Is there anything else I should do or try?
Thank you for time and help with this matter

Answer
It has only been a few days, give it more time. You are on the right path, pair all good things with the new dog. Avoid "special alone time" it could compound the potential problem.

FWIW Dogs sad when you are not there usually do not change with the new dog. It's very common to think that it would-very human! If she is sad when you leave, it's more about you and her than another dog.
