Question
I recently adopted a dog and realized she has a cold. she has trouble breathing out of it and  runny yellowish green stuff is coming out. is there anything i can do without bringing her to the vet? I have read that if it a cold, there is not much you can do. I just dont have the money for a full check up now. any suggestions?

Answer
The green stuff indicates an infection that probably needs antibiotics. Your dog could have distemper, canine influenza or any other number of serious illnesses. Rarely do dogs get just a cold. She could have a sinus infection or even cancer. You need to take your dog to the vet. If you can't afford to do that, call your local SPCA and ask for help. They should be able to help you get to a low cost clinic. If not please do consider giving your dog up to the humane society or SPCA so that she can get the medical treatment that she needs and deserves. Very often people with perfect intentions take on a pet without realizing how expensive they can be to maintain. The least that they deserve is an annual vet visit, monthly heartworm prevention, annual vaccinations, montly bathing, nailclipping,a premium dog food and emergency care when they are ill.I'm sure that you love your baby very much and that you will make the right decision for her either way. Please don't delay, delays can be the difference between something simple turning into something life threatening.
blessings.
