what kind of dog should I get?

Question
we're wanting to get a dog, but not quite sure what kind suits our family.  My husband and I work 8 hour jobs.  We have 2 children ages 14 & 10.  We like to take walks, and spend time outside when the weather is nice, but otherwise not real active people.  We have a good sized back yard with a 6' privacy fence.
We have been thinking about getting a weimeraner, but I am worried about the length of time the dog will be in a crate while we are at work.  What do you suggest?

Answer
Do the children get home early enough to let the dog out responsibly?   I think you should contact the following rescues  I think you should not get a puppy.  It would be very hard on both of you so get a dog that is a bit older, but around 6 mo to 3 years.  Weimeraners would be a good choice.  If you want to keep the dog outside during the day and in during the night that would work and also boxer, golden retiever and airdale.  Depending on how cold it gets.  A colder weather family dog would be elkhound, keeshund, sammoyed.  These are all good family dogs and good with children.
