adopting a new dog - when we already have 1

Question
We have a 3 year old dog that we adopted when she was 5 months. She's great - sweet as can be, obedient, and calm most of the time. She's been shy and submissive ever since we got her, and she's kind of needy sometimes. We have been considering adopting another dog with the hopes that this will help her with some of these issues. Is this a good idea for her - or should we just continue to let her be the only child??

Answer
Adopting another dog is often good for a dog that lacks confidence,as sometimes another dog will bring the other dog 'out of it's shell'. Esp if the other dog is a bit on the bolder side,a puppy would probably be the best idea,as it would be less intimidating and also more outgoing. A dog that is nervous, however might make her worse. So look for a dog that is outgoing, without being too rough.
