Puppy itching

Hi Nancy  Holly is seven months old now.cocker spaniel.  She is scratching herself to peices!  No fleas but slightly dry coat.  I thought of cod liver oil.  Help please.

The best oil to give is Omega 3 fatty acids, and vitamin E.  Make sure she doesn't have even one flea on her as they will bite and she will be scratching that bite for a week.  Also, you can give her antihistamine, but check the dosage with your vet.  I have also found that a bath with a little vinegar added to the rinse water helps a lot too.  My daughter also makes a spray of it.  One part vinegar to 7 parts water.  Lightly spray the bald spots if she has any, not any open sores though as it can sting.
Hope this helps.  If it is really bad you may have to take her to the vet for a cortisone shot.
