Answer
Hi Mukul,

Finding a dog isn't as simple as finding the dog breed that's been rated "number one" in some category.

Dogs are individuals. Some are "breed standard" meaning if the breed is supposed to be sweet and docile, it is. But there are PLENTY of "non-breed standard" dogs out there due to bad breeding or poor socialization. So, a dog's breed description will only get you part way there. Once you narrow down a breed that's to your liking, which is said to fit into your lifestyle, you need to meet the dog and see if that particular dog is a good fit for your particular home.

If you've never owned a dog or trained a dog before, you would greatly benefit from working with a dog trainer or enrolling in a dog obedience class right from the start. Some breeds of dogs are simply too much of a handful for an inexperienced dog owner. Your experience level needs to be taken into account when selecting a dog breed.

One of these dog breed selectors might help you narrow down which breed seems to be a good match for your household.

ALL Dogs, no matter the breed or size need training, socialization and daily exercise. Some dogs will bark at strangers, some might welcome the stranger into the home without making a sound. Guard dogs need to be trained to guard. They must be obedient to their owner's commands. A small Poodle can be as effective a guard dog as a Shepherd!

If you're getting a puppy, it's wise to visit the kennel where the pups have been bred, meet the puppy's parents, talk to the breeder, and ask a lot of questions. Here is some info on how to find a responsible dog breeder:

If you have a dog, and want to introduce a second dog to your home, there is a correct way to go about it. Still you've got to take into account your dog's temperament before getting the new dog. Not every dog wants to share it's home with another dog, and to try to bring another dog into it's home can be nothing but trouble.
