Changed the crate

Question
We have a min-pin mix and we have had him in the same crate for about the last 6 months. He is almost a year. The crate we had him in he was getting to big for and couldn't really stretch out in. So we got him a Large dog crate 36x24x21. I know this is a big crate for him.

The problem is at night he has started to whine and scratch at the crate. It started the night we got the bigger crate. We keep him at the foot of our bed like we have for the last 8 months so there wasn't a change in scenery. How can we stop the whining and barking or does it have to do with a crate that is too large?

Answer
It could be that he feels a little lost in the bigger crate, what you can do to keep him busy is to get a 'Kong' toy and fill it with peanut butter,as he will be too busy trying to get the peanut butter rather then barking

Also try to put as many toys, blankets and pillows to make the crate seem more 'full'

In time he will just get used to the new crate and hopefully you will get your sleep back
