Alaskan Malamute/ German Shepherd mix

Question
I am thinking about adopting an Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd Mix.  I really can't find a lot of information about the possible temperament of this breed. Also, we live on in the country surrounded by over 100 acres, but I don't want a breed that would roam and be hard to keep at home. Would you have any helpful information?

Answer
Amy,  A German Shepherd is a very loyal and stay at home dog.  A malamute is a runner and a hunter.  However, the Malamute is also loyal, so if you keep an alpha position and earn the respect of your dog, he should stay with you.   If you let him out on 100 acres all day with no supervision he will wander, any dog would, even a Pomeranian.  The temperament of the shepherd would be higher strung than the malamute.  So your dog could go either way.  They are both closer to the wolf than other dogs...You must remain in charge, if you cannot, either get a different breed or take lessons and read a lot about how to treat these dogs.   Cesar Milan has a lot of good info on alpha type dogs....watch him on National Geographic or get his book.
thank you
