Question
QUESTION: hi. my dog is a 12 lb mix breed. yesterday he started limping on his right front paw. he would put some pressure on it but not much. today i woke up and he wont put it down at all. i tried to look at it and he has no cuts or abrasions that i can see. he pulls away from me when i touch the top of his paw right above his nails.  what should i do. and is this life threatening. he means so much to me. vets are closed cause it is Sunday so i cant take him till tomorrow. please help.

ANSWER: Hello Rachell,

You should not worry, sometimes a dog can injury a paw just by hitting it against something.  Like stubby a toe for instance.  Perhaps your little guy did step on something and it is causing him do not put weight on it.  Try soaking his paw in some Epsom salts or baking soda water.  This may help if there is something in the pad or between them.  This will also help if there was a bump or bruise.  Either way, give it a few days.

Did you check each part of the leg, like bending his shoulder, knee joint, ankle joint to see if it is one of these joints?  If so, and he didn't object than it is most likely something I mentioned above.

Don't worry until you have something to worry about(:
Let me know how he is later.

QUESTION: thanks for the help with smokey. i took him in to the vet they xrayed it and it was a sprained toe. i have another question. my husband fed my dogs people food sat. and my other dog developed diarreah  that night. he still has it. i was wondering how long it will usually last. he still eats and drinks normally. should i be worried? thanks alot.

ANSWER: Hi Rachell,

Glad to hear it's just a sprained toe.  That will heal in time.

The people food will cause diarrhea if your dogs are not use to eating it.  People food should be left for the people (:
Try giving your dog some canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) this will help firm up the stool.  A couple tablespoons should do the trick.  Again, these things happen all the time don't worry.  Check out the PipsChoice site for some info on my food I sell, it has some great information on feeding dogs the right foods.  If you want to try any of these foods, let me know I can help you with set up and price.

QUESTION: ok thanks i will try that. they both have diarreah now. it looks the same. the there is no blood in it.  how long will it cause them to have it for? thanks for  easing my mind. i appreciate it alot.

Answer
How long is hard to say for sure.  Use the pumpkin a few times a day and watch for a change in stool.  I would say just to keep it up until it's solves the problem.  And no more people food.
