male neutered female in heat

we recently moved in with a friend  and he owns one of our female dogs puppies. he was neutered about a week and a half ago. his stitches are out and he looks healed but my female (roxy) is in heat we found them "stuck together" this morning and I was wondering if she can get pregnant, if kroger(the male) was hurt by this and will they continue to do this if we don't get her spayed. will he still try to mount her with insertion if she is spayed. sorry about being a little graphic but I need to know. and if she is in heat do I have to wait to get her spayed. and my roommate wants to know if he will hump other things now that he has tried to mate with roxy. thanks a ton

It takes several months before the hormones are deminished enough where the male will not want to mount a female in heat. At this point, he still thinks he is intact and can breed!

No, she can not get pregnant. If it was the day of the neutering there may be a chance, but not over a week later. Yes, it is possible this would hurt Kroger, I would keep a close eye on him to see if he develops any problems. Yes, he will continue to want to mount her until she comes out of her heat, but by the next heat cycle he most likely will not have any interest. If he humped objects before he was neutered, he may continue for a few months until after the hormones is gone IF this is hormonal. Some dogs hump out of behavioral problems, and neutering will not help. If he never humped before, he will most likely not start doing it just because he was bred. But he will cry and scream and want to breed until Roxy is out of heat!

Good luck! Thanks for neutering. I do still recomend getting Roxy spayed. He will not mount her if she is spayed. (He may hump her but this is play dominance behavior between dogs and is not sexual in nature)
