Question
My 14 month old basset hound male is slightly underweight.-*He's activeL eats well and overall healthy but definately needs to gain ar least 10 pounds. Can you please help.

Answer
Hello Priya, It is unusual to hear of a basset underweight.  Read the label on the dog food and make sure you are feeding the correct amount of food.  Then make a decision if the quality of the food is right for him.  All dog food bags must list the ingredient that it contains the most of first.  For instance, if you see grain listed first and meat 2 or 3 ingredients later then this is not the best food.  Choose one that has meat listed first or second and grains and additives after meat.  If this does not seem to be the case, then because he is so active you might consider a vitamin supplement.  Also keep in mind that as he ages he will gain weight and at that point you might be worried about how to take it off.  Good luck and enjoy your wonderful basset.  Thanks for asking,  Cindy Lou :)
