Question
My wife and I purchased a Shih Tzu who is now 9 months old she is a sweet dog with a good temperament.
We have just purchased a toy Min Ping who is now 7 weeks old. The problem is our Shih Tzu, she is totally terrified of the smaller dog. On one occasion while trying to let them play, our Shish Tzu ran to me and peed her self. She is totally afraid of the other dog. We are at a loss on how bring these two together as friends to

Answer
Hello. congrats on the new puppy firstly. This sounds odd, I have experianced a simaler situation with my three dogs perhaps it will guide you..... when I first broguht my boston terreir puppy home to my other dogs labrador retereiver and jack russell terreir they were afraid to get close to her and smell her...they had NEVER seen a dog with such a flat muzzel before the best thing I could think of is they were afraid of her! They also nevber met a dog that snorted/gulped/snuffled like her either so this was all new to them...I remember one time my boston terrier was sitting in her bed on the floor chewing on a toy and my jack russell terrier went over to see her he extended his neck so he wouldnt have to step closer and smelled her.... she looked up snorted and he was off! My lab who is 80 pounds was afraid of her...just because of not seeing anything like her before I guess. But after about two weesk my resident dogs got to know the puppy was ok and wasnt gonig to brutaly attack them since they would see me picking her up and kissing her/cuddling her ect ect.....they took 6 weeks to accept this puppy fully and I swear my jack russell terrier was jelus and depressed for longer then that...even thou I made it clear he was still my Little dog even if his new "sister was smaller, I also made it very clear to my labrador retirever that she was still my Big girl and my boston terrier was my Little baby girl. Its very important to keep playing with and cuddling with the resisdent dog or it becomes very jelus and can snap at the puppy because of this. I say give it a few weeks if after the puppy's 6th week with you there is Really Zero inprovment then I am very sad to say this but you might need to rehome the puppy.
