Question
I have a 11 month old American Pit Bull Terrior and he chews everything when im not home. I have "puppy proofed" my home, nothing is left on tables and shelves are 4 feet off the ground. Tonight while I was at work he ate his food bowl, his dog bed and managed to remove and chew twenty-nine DVD's and three boooks from a four foot high book shelf. I walk him three thirty minute walks a day and take him either to the dog park or swimming in the local pond on a daily basis. I dont know what to do anymore, feels like I've tried everything! Please help!

Answer
Dogs chew as a stress reliever... and sometimes just for fun if they get bored.

This dog needs to be trained to a crate, and he should be crated when he cannot be watched. It's rather hard to get into trouble when in a crate! I don't think I would give this dog any bedding either, as he might decide to chew (and eat) that up, too, with disasterous results.

Give him super-hard things to chew on in order to relieve any stress he might have... huge bones, Kong toys filled with something tasty, etc. Look for things that say they are "indestructable". The bones I would only give under supervision, as even my little schnauzers can get small pieces of bones off of large knuckle bones after a bit of work.
