Question
Hello Kristin. My question is:Why dont dogs cry?? I know things upsets them like when my doggys human Grand Parents are leaving after a visit,my dog gets ever so upset but unlike children who outwardly cry,why does'nt he or any other dogs, cry and shed tears?? Caroline

Answer
Probably because dogs lack the intelligents of humans, this isn't to say dogs aren't smart, but dogs don't have the same type of understanding as people do

But some animals have been seen shedding tears,Chimpanzees,Elephants,Dolphins and Horses have all been observed shedding tears-but those four species are generally thought to be 'higher' animals and may have a better understanding of death ect I have personally seen a horse shed tears from the death of another horse,so it can and does happen in the animal world

Another thing is,dogs may not have the same tear duct structure as humans or some of those species, and therefore it's physically impossible for them to shed tears
