Question
Im freaking out about all this dog food recall, i have a black male lab that will be 2 in Oct, ive been feeding him Iams, we havent had any problems until i started hearing this stuff on the news and dogs dying of kidney failure, it seems like he has lost his appitite and today he threw up clear like byo, could this be related or is this just a fluke thing? He threw up and wanted to play afterwards but he has been sleepy alot and gasy, should i take him to the vet to be checked out or could this just be a stomach thing, he has been eating grass as well! I love my dog and would die if something was to happen to him!!!!! Also is Iams ok or should i not trust it because of this recall, what other brands of food would be good for my dog to keep him healthy?  Thank You, Khristie  Dallas, Texas

Answer
This is all a big mess.  So far as I know, all the dangerous products were the canned and moist foods.  It has lead to a reexamination of what is going into many other foods. They are finding more chows with borderline stuff in them.  I am still feeding my one Lab dry Iams lamb and rice adult, and the other dry Pro Plan chicken and rice.  Both dogs are part of large service dog programs.  I am sure their staff vets are reading every bulletin as soon as it comes out and perhaps in touch with the suppliers.  If there was a problem with either product, I would get a phone call.

Not sure which Iams you are feeding, but I doubt it is his problem.  If he doesn't clear up soon, get him into the vet before the weekend.  Labs are bad about foraging indigestible leading to digestive upsets.  Usually they get over them.
