Bruise on mini poodle

Question
About a month ago, I trimmed a small patch of hair to the skin from my 8 month old mini poodle because of a knot.  A week later, I noticed that the area turned dark brown (normal is pinkish) and felt hard.  The size is about 1"x1/2".  I noticed that his harness rests exactly in the same spot.  I believe the harness on the bare skin caused the lump.

What could I do to heal this area?  It doesn't seem to bother him.

Answer
Hello Sandy, The spot may actually be rubbed to a callus.  If the brown spot does not go away it may be because the area now has scar tissue.  Scaring areas usually do not grow hair and remain darker in color.  But since he is young, his hair may grow back the darker color as when he was a young pup and eventually return to the color he is now.  Once when grinding my toy poodl's nails she jumped and her hair caught in the spinning tool and ripped the hair out on her leg.  This left a bald spot and a bruise, with time the hair did grow back and you would never know it had happened.  You might try a different brand of harness, one with out metal connections if yours now has them.  They also sell a vest with velcro and a leash hook sewn into the back of the vest.  This is a great alternative to the traditional harness.  I found these on ebay.  In the mean time leave the area alone unless it is raw and needs medical attention and time will tell you if all will return to normal.  Good luck, Cindy lou :)
