Boston terrier eatting dog poo!

Question
Hey Kristen I hope you can help me. Of the three dogs I have my youngest a 9 month old boston terrier "Hannah" has developed a discusting habit...she is eatting dog poo from outside, I know this because she brings frozen poo in from outside whee I have caught her three times not yelled at her she dropped it and I get a tissue and fling it back out. Right now all the dog poo is frozen on the ground and I can not remove it at this time..I must wait for the weather to milden so I can get it up. All my dogs are eatting authority from petsmart its high quaility and has no byproducts so there not a crappy diet.   My questions are:

Why has she started? this I've had her since she was 7 1/2 weeks old and she hasnt done this before

How can I stop the behavier as soon as possible?

thank you for any information you can give me.

Answer
Aside from picking up the poo from your yard and disposing of it, the only thing you can do to prevent her from doing this is to take her outside on leash so that you can correct her for trying to pick it up, and get her away from it.

I've found that frozen poo is much easier to pick up than non-frozen poo.

This behavior is normal, and many puppies and dogs do it. It is not always because of a bad diet; with puppies it's more often from curiosity than anything, and they usually grow out of it. I wouldn't necessarily call Authority a high quality food, but it certainly isn't one of the worse brands either. I don't think your pup's cophragia is because of diet either.

It could be because she is going through the second teething phase, where the rear molars come in, and chewing on something frozen helps to soothe her gums. You could try making some pupcicles (frozen broth) for her, or freezing a Kong filled with peanut butter, cream cheese, canned dog food, etc.  and see if her behavior stops.
