Question
Can I give my Siberian Huskey pepto bismol for an up set stomach?

Answer
I know that some have used it on their dogs, but I have NEVER had any success with it on dogs OR people. Puked-up pink stuff is pretty gross to clean up.

The best thing to do is to FAST him for at least 24 hours.

If he is also tanking up on water, you must pick that up and only give him an ice cube every half hour to an hour. Once he starts leaving water in the bowl, then you can put in SMALL amounts of water for him to drink. Watch him for dehydration by pulling up on the skin at the back of his neck. In a hydrated dog, the skin will return to normal position very quickly, and in a dehydrated dog the skin will go down very slowly or not at all. (Dehydration could require sub-Q fluids by your vet.)

Go out and buy a jar or two of Gerber Strained Chicken... the plain stuff, not the doctored-up one with onions, etc. (yes, the baby food). Make up a bowl (or a pot) of rice and mix a *small* amount of the strained chicken in it for flavor, and then start offering it to him one teaspoonful at a time. Don't offer any more until you are sure that he is keeping that feeding down. Initially feed frequently.... every couple hours or so.... and as he keeps that feeding down, you can gradually start increasing the amount a teaspoonful or so as the day progresses. (Don't increase too soon initially.) As the amount of each feeding increases, lengthen the time between the feedings, but continue to keep the feedings on the smaller, rather than normal, side for a time.

If things are progressing well by the second or even third day, start adding kibble a couple pieces at a time to the rice mixture. Take your time in getting him back to his normal diet. And backpeddle at the first sign of vomiting and start completely over with fasting again.
