My dog and going to the bathroom outside!!

Question
Hello Kristen!  I have a 13 year old miniature dachshund and we just moved into a new condo about two months ago.  I have a sliding glass door with a patio, so I set up a light weight chain to hook her up to, so she could go outside.  She was doing well and adjusting, but all of a sudden she doesn't want to go outside through the slider and I have to walk her.  This isn't a big deal, but sometimes I NEED to put her out that way because I don't have time to walk her.  Just today I put her out there because I was getting ready for work and she just sat on the step...I then QUICKLY walked her and she peed.  I knew she had to, but why didn't she out the slider?!?!  It has been raining the last couple of days and that is when she has stopped going out there, but it is WET everywhere!!  I just don't know what to do...she has also become VERY whiny!!  Do you have any suggestions?  I do feel bad because I am gone more then most people and I try to walk her as much as I can, but sometimes it is impossible!!

THANKS!!

Answer
It  be a medical problem, such as it hurting her when she goes to the bathroom, and associates that with going outside as well-in that case she will need to see the vet,as it could be stones or an infection

However if everything is fine with her,you may have to spend an evening that's nice out and you have the time,to go out and pet her ect,it may be that she doesn't want to be outside along, but what you can do is start spending time with her outside, and slowly decrease the time you are with her-that often does the trick with dogs that don't like to be out,as does coaxing them to go outside with a little treat if you don't have time to be with her
