VERY AGGRESSIVE MALE PITBULL

Question
I have a 5 year old male (neutered) rednose pitbull, who is blind in his left eye (this just happened recently...)
He is very people- and dog-aggressive and has not responded to socialization of any kind since puppyhood. Our vet is afraid to do eye surgery, since the dog gets so stressed and anxious that he has to have a tranquilizer, a muzzle AND be fully sedated just to get a check-up... the post-op care follow-ups would have to be frequent and the dog needs to be kept "quiet" for at least a month to give the eye a chance to heal.  I have tried everything I can think of to "desensitize" my dog regarding people and other dogs, and I am at my wits end.  There are three people in this world who can touch him and be around him w/out having to fear being bitten... myself included.  Is there hope for my pitbull?
P.S. I got him as a three-months old, he weighted five pounds, and had been very badly abused...

Answer
Hi Christine;
This is a nervous dog, possible scarred by treatment he recieved before you got him.
The only thing I can suggest is massage.
I have turned very aggressive dogs into gentle dogs with it, many times, some that had been aggressive for years.
Go to this site and read about what can be done with the massages, and you can order a video from there to learn to do the massages properly.
This does not take months and months like psychotherapy does.

You might want to reconsider the eye surgery.
My dog went bklind, and I learned the eye surgery was very painful and the recovery is longer and more painful for dogs than my laser surgery was.
She was an older dog, and already past her normal life expectancy, so I decided against putting her through that.
5 years is not very old though, so you may feel it is worth it.
Good luck.
