Question
Hi! We recently added a female black lab to our family. She is 10 weeks old today :) I am aware that labs are high energy dogs, but I'm wondering how much exercise she should be getting a day at this age and when I can start taking her for longer walks. (mile or 2) We live in the country, so we would be walking on the road. I currently am just walking her around our property and, of course, playing with her for exercise.
Also, what type of comb/brush works best for a lab?
Thanks!

Answer
Hello, You wil want to wait until she has her three main vaccines and with the last will come her rabies vaccine....to walk her around off yuor property where other dogs may roam to insure she doenst come in contact with any illnesses that can prove fatal to small puppies such as parvo & distemper. I give my lab who is 3 years old a spayed a 10 minute jont each morning with my two terriers thats On leash and she is in good shape...I do have a large yard thou and it seems you do as well and they run and paly together several times everyday. For a single dog playing fetch or frisbee and a ten to fifteen minute walk cuppled with a good diet will be enough to keep the dog in shape and contented. I perfer a Slicker brush for my lab but onyl really brush her alot during Shedding season the slicker is rather picky and can hurt a puppies skin so I would use a slicker that has plastic tips or a metal comb until she is older. Congrats on your new puppy.
