Question
I have a 9.5 year old Pekingese that is great with kids and other dogs in the neighborhood and/or at the dog park. I am thinking of getting a new puppy a Beagle/Terrier mix. My question is how do those two breeds get along? Will they mix and mesh well?

Answer
Hi Lorri;
Just like children, your dogs will get along the way they are taught to get along.
Right now, my children consist of a 9 year old Australian Shepherd mix, and 8 year old Lhasa mix, a 5-1/2 year old purebred Sheltie, and an australian Cattle dog/Huskie mix. We are not sure how old he is as he was a grown dog when we rescued hi. He is at least 2 years old though.
The Sheltie was also a grown dog, but we knew how old he was when we took him. He was 1-1/2 years old.
They get along great because I am the Alpha, not one of them, and they get their little butts chewed out and put in time out for a half hour of so if they don't act nice.
Time out is going into the small bathroom in the hall, with no toys, no room mmuch (5X5)to move around and play, just have to lie on the bathmat and hear all that is going on they are missing out on, and contemplate their sins.
We have had other mixed and combinations. Different ages, different sexes.
They behave the way they are trained to behave.
If you aren't experienced in training dogs in obedience, Petsmart and Petco stores have weekend classes as do Man's Best Friend stores.
