Question
6 month old black lab
PROBLEM: walks
jumping up biting leash near hand, I stop, ignore> he continues to grab at leash. I use distraction or i stand still and ignore
>>>still a problem,. often he will suddenly do a BIG flop onto his back and sides.

he has great sit/wait.
good great re-call with 3 whistles
beautifully crate trained
nice off leash in a secluded area (not around cars or other dogs or people) great re-call then

just can't walk him. I try to wait him out-but he's not cold or has to go to work or get to a bathroom!
I try to keep it low key and relaxed.

final line: walks are a nightmare  !
obviously he's "got my number"! -same with all the family

Answer
Try giving him a stern, ''his name, bad dog, drop!'' and make eye contact.  Hold eye contact.  First one to look away loses.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
