Inquiry about not breeding the dog.

Hi Doc,
I have a Female Pomerian about 6years old, we dont plan to have pups from her and in this regard our local vet told us that if we dont plan to breed her than we should get her uterus operated, this way we can extend her life.

Please let me know whether we should get her operated or not?

I am not a Doc, but I agree with your veterinarian. If you have no intention of breeding your bitch (and few are really worth breeding for various reasons), you really should have her spayed ASAP as it cuts down the incidence of mammary cancer and eliminates pyometra (uterine infection).

Since at six, your dog is entering the "dangerous age" for whelping anyway (more things go wrong during whelping after five), it really is in her best interest to have her spayed.
