new pup with sick dog

Question
We are getting a new puppy in a couple days, our 7 yr old llewellen setter has cancer in his mouth and is doing just ok, he still likes to go for a short walk, lovers to still eat and drink and still asks to go potty outside. I know the cancer will take his wonderful life soon but dont want him to feel bad about having a pup around, I will be sure to give equal time but am confused about how he may feel, we didnt think our baby would go this far when we ordered our new puppy, but he has, any suggestions?

Actually, we have found, that older dogs and sick dogs are spurred by new puppies in their lives!
It really may keep him here longer, just for the competition sake.
So, don't feel bad, you are already committed, and life is short,
