Question
Doc is his name, he is 6 years old, very special dog and a good well behaved dog.  I have spent hundreds of dollars on him ever since he was a puppy because of ear infections and now he has big red bumps on his belly.  Last year when we moved from Ohio to NC, he got attacked by fleas, about a month before this happened, I had given him Front-line Plus, he became very sick dehydrated, Doc ended up spending two nights in the hospital and 2000.00 later, the vets still could not give me an answer as to what was wrong with him, he was throwing up white foam and sometimes it was yellow.  Doc now weighs 105 pounds.  I took him off of Eukanuba and put him on Science Diet.  His ear infection still will not go away.  All he wants to do is lay around and sleep.  I take him to the park once a day for a good walk, sometimes two times.  I have made the decision to take him completely off of dog food.  Today, I went to the store and bought cans of chicken, low fat beef, albacore tuna and cans of salmon.  I will also feed him green beans.  My question is how much should I feed him a day of these things?  Also, Doc has started a habit of waking me up at 2:00 in the morning.  I take him out, he sometimes will urinate and sometimes he will just lay down on the grass and look at me, I will talk him into going back to bed with a treat, but then at 4:00 a.m. he is whining at my bedroom door begging me to let him in the bed with us.  And I do, I finish my sleep.  My day starts at 5:00 a.m. every morning and he is totally wearing me out.  But he is all worth it, he is a precious dog and I LOVE him dearly.  Thank you for any advice that you can give.

Sincerely,
Debbie

Answer
Hello Debbie and thanks for emailing, Sounds like a dogwith bad allergies is all. I am no expert on homemade dietsubut can say a hypo allergtic diet for a dog with allergies heps with allergy symptoms such as flaky skin or itchiness, ear problems and canine acne, I reccomend a Fish and potato diet I reccomend bue buffaloif you want to give dog kible another try I use it with my wo small dogs that have bad allergies and since changing to this there skin has inproved they dont get half as itchy and dont have so many problems like ear infections. You can pick up a dog cook book and see if you can get a recipe for hypo allergtic kibble. You can go to the dog nutrican area for an expert on homemade kibbles as well.
