hairless chinese crested

Question
My dog has really dry scratched up skin ...is there anything that i can use to make his skin smooth...i currently use lotion but i don't know if that is toxic to dogs.

Oh do I have a goodie for you! Once a week, twice if you like, coat him in oil, baby oil, mineral oil, whatever, and wrap him in a warm towel. Just stick the towel in the dryer for a bit, or even in the microwave, if you have a doggie sweater he can wear that's great too. Sit and hold him and love him for awhile, for as long as you can. The longer the better. Then don't bathe him, just wipe him off with a warm damp cloth. He'll be slippery but smooth and his skin will improve pretty quickly. As for lotion, be careful with that, if you're going to use lotion get something non comodogenic so it doesn't clog his pores. You can also use bagbalm, or even aloe vera. Aloe vera is GREAT for their skin. Also try putting a humidifier wherever he spends the most time.
