Question
I have a boxer mix, both girls combined had a total of 19.  The mothers are so skinny and the puppies are so fat.  What do I need to do for the mothers to fattin' them back up?  They eat all the time, but still skinny.

Answer
Hi,

You are definitely asking the wrong person as I am completely against breeding, especially for a dog that is not of a champion blood line.

Your dogs are obviously unable to cope with this breeding program and the conditions of their bodies are telling you that.   I would suggest bringing them to your vet as soon as is humanly possible.  They probably need some intense vitamen therapy.  Increase the amount of food you are feeding them.  Add in real meat without cooked bones.  You can give them whole grains, butter, whole milk if they can tolerate it, whole yogurt, fresh eggs, cottage cheese, and meat, meat, meat!  Try liver as well as they may need iron right now.

Have your vet do a full blood panel.

And in my opinion, have them fixed so they never have to go through this again.

I work in rescue and so I pray that you will be able to find homes for so many puppies.  For every puppy that's born, another dog dies in a shelter because there aren't enough homes to go around.

If you love dogs, stop breeding.

Good luck with your dog's health.
