peeing in house

Question
Hiya,
Was wondering if you can help?  I have a 10mth old Foxy / Border Collie.  When we first got her she had to stay outside as we were renting but she did come in for 20mins or so at a time.  We also got a kitten at the same time and they were always playing. In that time she did have the odd pee on a rug but it was very hard to see being a very hairy rug and so went un-noticed until I realised and the rug was thrown away.  Since moving in to our new home she is allowed in the kitchen/dining area which has wooden floors and the games room which is carpeted.  She sleeps in a crate at night in games rm.  I let her out when I go to bed and straight away in a.m.  Problem is she keeps peeing in games rm on things like the bean bag but strange thing is shes on the bean bag sleeping!  Not sure if she sleeps then pees then gets off?  She also pees in her crate, on floor, on a mattress we had in there.  When she is in during evening I check her often to see if she wants out.  She doesn't have a bladder infection.  I was just wondering if you have come across this before.. i.e peeing where she sleeps even when not contained and if you have some advise as to how to slove this.  I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Many thanks
Leni

Answer
I have seen it, specifically the beanbag.  I think it may be a form of marking.  I don't know that their is a good solution.  Better leadership is all I can suggest.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Getting her spayed if not already would help.  If she isn't spayed and hasn't had a season yet, it could be some of the flaky behavior that often proceeds the season.
