Question
I adopted him when he was 3 years old from the Humane Society and he is now 1 years old.  He use to love going out running with me.  We would run 5 times a week and an hour each time. Over the past 2 years he goes out running with me maybe 1, (more once a week if I am lucky) 2 or 3 times a week.  Depending on what he wants to do.  Is this something I need to be concerned with?  He loves going out for walks but I also want to maintain his weight and I thought running would be best.....He loves his treats.....

Is it more important to cut down on his treats and only take him out for walks.   Or treats only 2 or 3 times a week?

We humans love our treats and I know dogs love their treats also.  What is the best way to do this?

Answer
Hi,
He doesn't like to go out as much because he is getting older.  Walks would be great with a little running during the walk.
The best thing about dogs is that they don't pay attention to size.  That is why you see a chi hua hua try to fight with a great dane.   Well it also works with treats.

You can give him treats the same amount of times that you have been giving him, however just break them in half.  He won't know the difference.   That is how I cut down treats for my dogs when they get older and don't move around as much.  And it works great, trims them right down.
If it becomes a problem again, just cut them into quarters.
